In her current role as a psychology/history teacher, she has opportunity to serve as the liaison for 3 fire companies (2 departments) that serve her school district. She is a nine-year firefighter who was most recently the Deputy Chief of an all volunteer fire company (within a two company department) that serves a population of 13,000 in 5 square miles.
Since 2018, Chief Yarborough has worked to ensure that students receive recognition for their community service, ultimately creating a credit bearing course that enable students to earn academic credit for the work they provide to fire departments in the form of responding to emergencies, attending trainings/fire academy, and providing public education. All of that is outside of the school and independent of the school district.
Since 2020, Chief Yarborough has volunteered time to assist fire departments in connecting with school officials, and has educated both entities on best practices for recruitment and retention of junior firefighters.
Chief Yarborough holds ProBoard Certification in Instructor 2, Officer 2, and Firefighter 2. She holds VRT and Water Rescue Technician Certification, and is an NREMT
